By Land Line Staff The California Air Resources Board recently announced two expensive fines for California-based businesses over violations of the state’s diesel truck emissions rules. CARB fined Burrtec Waste Industries $307,200 in November for emission violations in 2005 and 2006. The Fontana, CA, company didn’t properly inspect its diesel vehicles and didn’t retrofit some of its diesel trucks with emission-reduction devices as required by solid waste collection vehicle rules. In December, CARB fined Mello Milk Transport of Newman, CA, $37,000 for failing to conduct diesel truck smoke tests in 2008 and 2009 at its fleet facility. “Reducing diesel particulate emissions is the most important thing we can do to protect the public against the harmful health effects of air pollution,” said CARB Chairman Mary Nichols, in a written statement. “Businesses that do their part by maintaining their vehicles must keep our air healthy.” www.landlinemag.com |
